Dr. Barra Ó’Tuama

Dr. Barra Ó’Tuama, based in Cork, graduated in Medicine from UCC in 1978 with honours in Psychiatry. Having spent 3 years working in CUH after graduation, Dr. Ó’Tuama undertook further postgraduate studies in Sports Medicine where he graduated with distinction in 1982 from London University Hospital. He was then Medical Officer to the Irish Para-Olympic team in 1980, and has since worked as a General Practitioner and Sports Medicine Specialist. Dr. Ó’Tuama has a particular interest in chronic musculoskeletal pain, child and adolescent psychiatry, health screening, and preventative medicine. Combining his sports medicine expertise and his interest in preventative medicine, Dr. Ó’Tuama is particularly interested in how sports and exercise can act as a preventative treatment to some medical conditions.

Dr. Ó’Tuama holds a first class honours degree in Computer Science and is very involved in the provision and utilization of modern technology in Medicine. A foundation member of the Irish College of General Practitioners (MICGP), Dr. Ó’Tuama is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (FFSEM).
