Dr. Huw Griffiths





Dr. Huw Griffiths is a Consultant Cardiologist at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. He qualified from St Thomas Hospital in 1992, and trained in London at St Mary’s Hillingdon and the Royal Brompton. 


He has wide experience in the management of all aspects of cardiology including angina, hypertension, heart failure, assessment of murmurs, arrhythmias, pacemakers and syncope. He has set up the coronary and angioplasty and stenting programme in Portsmouth, which has now developed into the largest 24/7 heart attack centre along the South Coast. He holds a level 6 clinical excellence award and is the clinical director of the department. 


Dr. Griffiths was awarded a major research grant in the heart failure research unit of the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College, and has a number of research publications. His current research interests include the evaluation of new intracoronary stents, and the use of anti-thrombotic and lipid lowering drugs in patients with acute coronary syndrome. He is a member of the British Cardiac Society and the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society.
