Babylon's UK Travel Clinic: creating a stress-free travel experience

Are you planning an exciting trip abroad to explore new cultures, visit friends and family, or embark on a business trip? Many exciting destinations require extra preparation such as specific vaccinations or help with jet lag or altitude sickness. Fortunately, Babylon’s new Travel Clinic is ready to help you prepare for your trip. Our expert travel clinicians will advise you on your vaccinations and specific medications to ensure you are ready for your next adventure.

You can book a digital appointment to discuss malaria prevention, and how to quickly recover from altitude sickness or jet lag. You will be in the safe hands of one of our skilled clinicians, with a wealth of experience advising patients with complex travel itineraries. They are available to support everyone, including individuals with underlying medical conditions or those travelling whilst pregnant.

What sets Babylon's Travel Clinic apart?

Instead of taking time off work or travelling to a clinic, you can meet with our clinicians through the Babylon app from wherever you are. Accessing the care you need has never been easier thanks to our intuitive digital platform. During your appointment, you will receive expert advice in just ten minutes, so that you can easily and quickly tick another thing off your holiday to-do list.

Who is Babylon’s Travel Clinic for?

Are you travelling to a high-risk malaria location or are you concerned about jet lag? Or maybe you’re relocating and require long-term travel advice? Our expert clinicians will be able to advise you and prescribe the right medication. If your destination is more than 2500m above sea level or you’re planning an adventurous mountain climbing trip, then we are happy to advise you on how to mitigate symptoms of altitude sickness. Perhaps you’re visiting friends and relatives abroad and require medication advice to put your mind at ease? We’ve got you covered.

Looking for Malaria advice or prescriptions?

Our Malaria service is available for anyone who is travelling to an area of mosquitoes where there is a high risk of malaria. Our clinicians can advise you on the risk of malaria at your travel destination, and provide advice on prevention medication, bite avoidance, repellent and nets. They can also provide specialist support for those with underlying medical conditions or who are travelling whilst pregnant. For these individuals, malaria prevention medication (also known as chemoprophylaxis) is not available over the counter, but we are able to provide advice and prescriptions for this at the discretion of the clinician.

Need support with Altitude Sickness?

Our Altitude Sickness service is available for adults over the age of 18 who are travelling to destinations which are 2500m above sea level, climbing mountains, or who have concerns of developing altitude sickness symptoms. Common travel destinations include La Paz in Bolivia or Bogotá in Colombia, or popular mountain hikes including Machu Picchu, Mount Everest Base Camp, Inca Trail and Mount Kilimanjaro. Altitude sickness occurs when your body doesn’t acclimatise quick enough to the higher altitude. In order to prevent the symptoms of altitude sickness, our clinicians can prescribe an altitude sickness medication called Acetazolamide.

Need help with Jet Lag?

Our Jet Lag service is available for anyone over the age of 18 and can support individuals who struggle with jet lag, or who have concerns that it may be an issue during upcoming travels. To help our patients acclimatise and ease their jet lag symptoms, we can prescribe jet lag medication (melatonin), which is only available at specialist travel clinics and cannot be accessed over the counter.

Our approach: comprehensive advice

We provide comprehensive advice for your unique travel itinerary. Our clinicians will take the time to understand your concerns and itinerary, to make sure that all medical-related questions are answered ahead of your travel plans.

Experienced prescribing

Babylon clinicians can prescribe medications for malaria prevention, altitude sickness and jet lag that you are unable to buy over the counter at a pharmacy. These medications are only available at specialist travel clinics, such as ours.

How it works

  1. Sign up or log into your Babylon Private account from your web browser or download the Babylon app and sign up through your smartphone.
  2. Schedule an appointment by selecting “Travel Clinic”, then choose between the Malaria, Altitude Sickness, or Jet Lag clinic. Select a time that works for you from the options available. You will spend 10 minutes with a clinician discussing your travel itinerary, receive advice for your travel, and any required medication.
  3. Each patient will have their own appointment, rather than as a family group. Please ensure you book a separate appointment for each individual.

Accessible care on-the-go

Our Travel Clinic offers a convenient digital service that can be accessed anywhere in the UK. The cost is £45. If a prescription is issued during your appointment, this is included within the fee, but the medication is not.

Once your prescription is ready, you can choose to collect it or have it delivered to a UK address of your choice. If you collect your prescription, you’ll receive a code via email that you can take to any pharmacy. If you have your prescription delivered, you will receive a link from Phlo, our pharmacy partner, to schedule your delivery and arrange payment.

When to book your appointment

Our travel clinicians are able to see patients quickly via our digital app. However, medication availability will depend on your pharmacy, so we recommend that you book an appointment with plenty of time to spare.

For malaria prevention prescriptions, our clinicians recommend booking 3 weeks in advance of your travel plans. This is to ensure that you are protected against malaria prior to travelling, and to allow for changes in prescription if side effects occur. Altitude sickness and jet lag prescriptions don’t need to be taken ahead of your travel, but make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get your prescription before your trip.
