Babyl Rwanda

As part of our mission to make healthcare accessible and affordable the world over, we're building specialized digital health services for those in countries with little or no access to basic healthcare.

Our Partners in Rwanda

Like many health systems around the world, Rwanda was struggling with easily accessible and affordable healthcare. In an effort to address this issue, in 2016 we partnered with the Government of Rwanda and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to offer Rwandans one of the most progressive solutions in healthcare. Our service, under the local name Babyl, is integrated into Rwanda’s National Health Insurance Scheme and is the largest digital health provider in the country.

How Babyl works

Designed for basic feature phones, Babyl gives users access to doctor and nurse consultations over the phone from anywhere in the country. Rather than travelling long distances to a health centre and waiting sometimes hours to be seen, users can quickly book an appointment with one of Babyl’s qualified doctors and can receive a code via text message for a prescription, referral or lab test at one of over 450 partner health facilities.

Paul, Kicukiro

I woke up, and my whole body was aching. I had fever, chills, & wasn't able to swallow anything. I quickly booked an appointment with Babyl. After a blood test, the doctor told me I had malaria. I am happy I was able to get quick treatment. Malaria can be fatal.”
